One Brand Review: Makeup Revolution
So for this post, I thought I would put focus on one brand specifically and look at their products not as individual pieces but as a range, in order to aim to get an overall view of a brand as a whole rather than their most known products. The only way I can do this obviously is through products that I have purchased and owned myself and my personal thoughts on them.
The brand this post is based around is one of my absolute faves, Makeup Revolution. Now if you have never heard about this brand, you are definitely missing out if you're a makeup lover. I have loved this brand for quite a long time now, I first discovered them strolling down the makeup aisle in Superdrug (one of my favourite pass times) and I believe the first thing I tried from them was a bronzer and a primer, and I remember not expecting anything amazing, because one I had never heard about this brand before, and two the price was so inexpensive (not that that matters to how good the product is) and let me just tell you... I was SO wrong!! I remember being so happy with the products, their quality and how the performed for me I was so excited to buy and test more from the brand, and the more I tried the more I loved their makeup.
So Makeup Revolution is a British company (sold in Superdrug and online, but I also believe they ship worldwide, but don't quote me on that). The brand pride themselves on their products being an affordable price but high-quality makeup, now I am definitely here for this statement considering everything I have tried from the brand (which you will learn in this post... is a lot) has been amazing quality and pigmentation and always performs well for me personally. As if this brand is not already winning your love enough, they are 100% cruelty free and most of their products are vegan and gluten-free, which I honestly think is so amazing, considering, in my opinion, there is absolutely no need to test on animals considering it is 2018, there are definitely many other ways to test products.
There are a few 'brands' that are all under the wing of 'revolution makeup' as a company; revolution, revolutionPRO, I heart revolution, obsession, and Freedom.
Now in this post I am just going to go through the products I have tried personally from this brand and why I fell in love with their makeup, however when I was going through my makeup collection, I did not realise how much of their makeup I actually had, so I will talk a little bit about each product but if I did give a full review, we would be here for forever and a day and lets be real here... nobody anywhere has the time to read that, so if you want to know any more about any of these products at all please either ask me in the comments below or feel free to ask away on twitter or instagram, my twitter is @makeupperks and my instagram is @makeup_perks and I will be more than happy to talk more in detail about them, after all I would never turn down talking about makeup.
Firstly, in terms of face products I own quite a lot of products from the brand that a have really loved and enjoyed using and I would definitely recommend most if not all of them. Some of the products I have purchased are older than some of the newer range, and I genuinely believe that although the old products are really good quality and are still so good, for obvious reasoning the newer products are a lot better. Personally, I think that shows a really positive side to the brand and their genuine love for makeup, and changing and altering their formulas and products to achieve the best result for their customers.
The first product I am going to discuss is the ‘Revolution conceal and define concealer’, now this is one of the newer additions to the brand and let me just tell you, I am here for this product!! It is amazing, it costs £4 and is a full coverage concealer ( which is true let me just add) and it blends like an absolute dream. I have heard many people compare this concealer to the ‘tarte shape tape concealer’ and we all know how known and loved that is in the makeup world. So if that doesn’t tell you how good this product is I don’t know what will. Another positive to this concealer is the shade range, there are 25 available shades and I am pretty sure that whatever skin tone or colour you have there is one in tha range that will match!! This product is also vegan and cruelty-free. I would definitely recommend.
The second product is one that I believe has been available for quite some time, and it is the ‘Freedom makeup London pro studio oil control base’. If I remember correctly, which if I’m being honest, I probably haven’t because memory is not my strongest point, this was one of the first things (apart from the products I mentioned earlier) that made me love this brand! This primer is a gel/lotion consistency and is mattifying. As mentioned in my previous posts I have really oily skin so any primer that will help me out is very much appreciated... and this did not let me down. This primer costs £8 usually but it is actually on sale at the minute for £5 I believe so I would pick one up soon, because let’s face it, we all love a bargain product.
The next product could quite possibly top the list for my favorite products, not only in this brand but in the drugstore. This product is one of the newest products for this brand... and let me just tell you it is amazing!! The ‘revolution face quad incandescent’ is a highlighter palette that looks out of this world. Honestly looking at this palette you would definitely believe it was from a high-end brand, such as Kylie cosmetics or Anastasia Beverly Hills... and it costs £10!! Yes £10!! You get 4 highlighter shades; a pearly shade, a rose gold shade, a gold shade, and a more pink shade. If I could only recommend one product from this post it would be this. EVERYTIME I wear this highlighter I get questions about what I am wearing, and people just can’t seem to believe it when I tell them what brand it is and what price I paid. If you want to glow to the gods, you need this!!
Now onto the next product, I actually owned this product quite a while ago and to be honest I bought it because it reminded me so much of the 'urban decay complexion blush naked flushed streak' which, if you don't know is a face palette which contains a blush, a highlighter and a bronzer and costs £25. Now I actually thought that the price of the urban decay product wasn't bad at all for what you get, considering I have paid more than that for a decent highlighter alone. My thoughts were very quickly and easily changed though when I picked up the 'Revolution ultra sculpt and contour kit' in Superdrug for only £3.50, yes you did read that right, £3.50 for a blush, highlighter and a bronzer (and good ones at that). the only difference in terms of the kits is that the urban decay product has a mirror and let's face it for that price, you could literally go and buy an extra mirror and still save a good few pounds. I really liked this product, not only for the price but the quality. The highlighter in this kit, in my opinion, would definitely be James Charles approved, it is sooo good for the price. And also the bronzer and blush also prove to be really good products and look really pretty on the skin, I would 100% reccomend.
Now, do you remember just a few minutes ago in this post we talked about the highlighters being amazing from this brand, if you don't want to fully invest in a full palette of highlighters straight away (although you wouldn't be disappointed, and you can never have too many) this part of this post is for you. Usually i have found that inexpensive and cheap highlighters can be very chalky and instead of giving the face a glow they can sometimes sit ontop of the skin and create a really cakey look (and lets face it looking like a birthday cake is never the goal), however Makeup revolution proved me so wrong with their highlighters, whenever I use their products it makes me wonder why or how some brands can charge so much for their highlighters when they seem to have their formula perfected for a fraction of the price.
The first individual highlighter is the 'Revolution vivid baked highlighters', now these cost £3 each and I belive there are 3 available shades. These products, like most others from the brand, are vegan, cruelty-free and gluten-free, and alongside all that, they are absolutely amazing!! if you want to glow to the gods on a budget I couldn't recommend these more!! I personally own the shade 'golden lights' and I love it, I often reach for it and it never lets me down... and I like a blinding glow!!
And if for some reason you are not feeling them highlighters, the 'revolution pearl lights loose highlighter' is also a product that I love from the brand. They are very finely milled pigments that you can either apply lightly to the face for a 'subtle glow' (cant say i would ever choose this option personally) or they are very easy to build for that blinding highlight. These cost £5 and let me tell you, you get soooo much product in this container, I feel like I have had mine forever and its not running out anytime soon, however on this note, I would just like to state that the packaging isn't the best because of the design, in order to use the highlighter you have to tip the product into the lid and then you always result in wasting a lot of the highlighter, however, you do get a lot of product so its not really a massive issue, I just think its a shame to waste such a good product. But let's face it, any brand that can perfect a highlighter formula for such an amazing price, i am here for it.
The last 'face product' i have tried from the brand is definitely (just like the others mentioned) is not a letdown. This product also drew my attention as it reminded me of a certain product from a certain brand *cough* Kylie Cosmetics *cough*. The 'I heart revolution- bronze and glow duo' is a duo powder (shocker) palette that contains a highlighter and bronzer. The packaging of this product I would say is a mix of too faced and Kylie but the price is so much better. The Kylie alternative to this product is the 'Skinny dip face duo' and retails for £28.69 which again for the actual product isn't too bad, but if your like me and live in the UK you will know that price will very quickly double (or more) with shipping and customs, however, makeup revolution have your back and released this gem of a product for the price of £6, and let me just stress that the price of this product does in now way shape or form mirror the quality of this product. I remember the first time I wore this my friend asked what highlighter I was wearing, and was completely shocked when I told her it was makeup revolution, ever since then I knew this product was a keeper.
Now onto eyeshadows and eye products from the brand. Their range of eyeshadows and palettes is actually amazing. If you ever want a certain style of palette I would definitely check out the makeup revolution stand or website, because seriously they probably stock one just like it.
If you haven't checked out the new makeup revolution range that has just launched yet, you HAVE too, it's so pretty. The first eye palette comes from that very range and it is the 'revolution pressed glitter palette- Midas touch'. Let me just emphasize how up my street this palette is... it is pure pressed glitter, it literally screamed at me in the shop and then jumped into my basket. There are 3 different colour ranges to this palette, I personally went for the more gold/orange toned one but there is no doubt about it that I will be going back to get the other two. This palette, in my opinion, is absolutely perfect for summer, because although I love glitter in every circumstance or for any occasion (and I'm talking literally to go to work or go to the shop... I'm way to extra I know) but especially for summer music festivals or summer nights out. Also i find it so much easier to have a bunch of different glitters in a palette because I seem to have endless nightmares with glitter pots, in the sense that I lose them or they spill glitter all over my makeup bag. I would 100% recommend these palettes.
Now the next product is a collaboration between makeup revolution and youtuber Sophdoesnails, and this is hands down one of my favorite palettes from the brand. The colour range is fab and it has the pigmentation to match. Have you ever opened a palette and it makes your heart happy, this palette done that for me. It costs £10 for 24 shadows, which hands down is a bargain, no questions asked. It is also more shadows than most other palettes which is always a plus, the more shades the better right? the palette is made up of 14 matte shades and 10 shimmers, and there are many different alternative looks that you could create with this palette because the shade range is so diverse, including neutrals, golds, greens, purples, pinks, reds and even a black. She has actually collabed with the brand again recently and released a part two to this palette which I haven't had a chance to get my hands on yet, however, I know I won't be let down when I do. Again this palette is vegan, cruelty-free and gluten-free.
Another new product that has recently been added to the range is the 'revolution glitter bomb' which are finely milled loose glitters, and as i said above, i love glitter so again this was another product that just jumped off the shelf and into my basket. I personally have the shade 'retrospect' which is such a pretty shade with reflective colours, however, there are 10 shades to choose from so there is plenty of choice there for all your glitter needs and occasions. These cost £4 and look really pretty either applied with a glitter glue as a statement glitter eye look or over the top of a liquid eyeshadow to just add an extra pop to the eye look.
Now finally, no post would be complete without a lip product. When I was searching my makeup collection for my makeup revolution products for this post I actually couldn't believe I only own one lipstick from the brand, actually I still don't believe this, I am almost certain I have more somewhere. However, the 'revolution pro supreme matte lip pigments' from this brand are so pretty. They are liquid lipsticks and are completely matte (like the name suggests). I actually have two of these and I think they are so worth the money, I mean considering they are £4. these lipsticks look so expensive in terms of the packaging and they don't look any less expensive on the lips, they are really lightweight and easy to wear, and there are currently 30 shades available I believe, so any event, any time of day, any makeup look... there is a lipstick for that in this range. I would highly recommend.
so that's it for my one brand review, overall I highly rate makeup revolution as a brand, I think the quality and price of their products is amazing in terms of how much work they put into their brand and releasing products that are based around what their customers like. I also really appreciate a brand that is 100% cruelty-free... I am definitely here for their brand.
If you have tried anything from the brand, please let me know what it was and what you thought in the comments, and also if you would like me to do more of these types of posts please let me know.
